about

A smattering of summer. A cautionary tale. A three-hour lecture on how we sometimes write music.

What a story!

"Get Yourself Together!" is an outtake from our last release, _Birds of North America_. Many trials and tribulations ago, Matt brought most of a song to the band but without words or a definitive melody. We all embarked on finishing it, and two versions were ultimately completed. We ended up recording Gabe's version "Miles Away" for _Birds of North America_. Adrian's version remained lost to humankind until he pestered Greg repeatedly into recording a quick vocal and doing a quick mix, and lo and behold, here it is.

lyrics

Wake up in the morning, and there's no hot water
You want a cup of coffee, but it's out of order
Try to get dressed and can't find your shoes
You put the TV on, and it's all Fox News

You want something
You want something that works

Hey now, they’re only words
Hey now, straighten your shirt
Get yourself together, don't lose your nerve

Stumble down the stairs to the parking lot (where are you going?)
The engines turning over, but the gears are shot
You order a Lyft, but the car won't move (where are you going?)
And when your driver arrives he wants to talk to you

I said, "Hello," it doesn't mean I want your life story
You never once ask me how I feel
But you can't look me in the eye when you’re talking at me
And that says more than your dumb words
